Research Goals

Research topic: Relationship between BMI and height.

Research Question: Is a person’s BMI related to their height?

Dependent Variable: Scale Data BMI

Independent Variable: Height, Weight

Extravenous Variable: Weight of clothes (E.g. Material of clothes), accessories (E.g. Belts, bangles, studs etc), age, gender, health history.

Hypothesis: There is a significant relationship between a person’s height and BMI.

Null Hypothesis: There is no significant relationship between a person’s height and BMI.

Conceptualization/Definition:

• BMI: The body mass index (BMI), or Quetelet index, is a statistical measure of body weight based on a person's weight and height. Though it does not actually measure the percentage of body fat, it is used to estimate a healthy body weight based on a person's height.

• Height: The distance between the lowest and highest points of a person standing upright; stature.

• Weight: A body of determinate mass, as of metal, for using on a balance or scale in weighing objects, substances, etc.

Operationalization:

• Weight is measured using an analog weighing machine in kg.

• Height is measured using a measuring tape in cm.
